Patron Code of Conduct Policy

 

In order to protect the rights of patrons and staff, to preserve and protect library materials and facilities, and to maintain the environment and atmosphere essential to the proper operation of this facility, the following rules of conduct will be strictly enforced.

  1. Loud talking and prolonged conversations within the library are not permitted.
  2. Loitering in the library building, or on the grounds, is not permitted.
  3. Food, beverages, or the use of tobacco in any form is not permitted.
  4. Moving the furniture is not permitted.
  5. Roller skates, roller blades, or metal-cleated sport shoes shall not be worn inside the library.
  6. Skateboards may not be ridden anywhere inside the library, or on library property.
  7. Shirts and shoes must be worn in the library.
  8. Feet on the furniture, and sitting on the arms of chairs are not permitted.
  9. Abusive and/or offensive conduct or language directed toward any person in the library is prohibited.
  10. Animals, except those to aid persons with disabilities, are not permitted in the library.  Animals may not be left unattended at the library entrance or exit.
  11. Young children must not be left unattended anywhere in the library. (See “Unattended Children Policy”).
  12. Sleeping in the library is not permitted
  13. Soliciting / surveying is not permitted.
  14. Cell phones must be turned off when entering the library.  No talking on cell phones within the library is permitted.
  15. Patrons shall not harass others by staring at another person with the intent to annoy that person, or by following another person about the building with the intent to annoy that person.
  16. Patrons shall not disturb others by playing audio equipment.
  17. Patrons shall not be under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
  18. Carrying weapons of any type is prohibited.
  19. Patrons shall not interfere with the use of the library by other patrons or interfere with library employees’ performance of their duties.
  20. The violation of Federal, State, or Local laws will not be permitted.  Theft, vandalism, and mutilation of library property are criminal offenses. Violators will be prosecuted.
